The entire Preston Woodworking team is earnestly committed to being good citizens through environmentally responsible business practices.  To help ensure our environmental stewardship we are continuously seeking ways to improve all facets of our fabrication processes.  This includes actively embracing technologies, materials and business practices that have a reduced or limited impact on the earth's resources.  Additionally, we are committed to educating our staff, our clients, and the community at large on the collective benefits of "going green".

RECYCLING recyle-logo.png

paper-recyling-bin.jpgWe have long suported our city's commercial recycling program.  We collect all discarded paper from our offices and return it for recycling rather than adding tons of a re-usable product to our local landfill.

cutting-board-photo.jpgIn addition to our support of community programs, we consistently seek opportunities and methods to reclaim as much of our scrap by-products as possible.  For esxample, Corian countertop remnants are transformed into cutting boards.  Wood remnants may be utilized to build bookstands, shelving and other useful items.  Since 2009 we have reduced our industrial waste pickups by over 30%.

ENERGY energy-logo.png

light-bulb-logo.pngNumerous opportunities were identified via energy audits to significantly reduce our energy draw.  This ranges from simply turning lights off when not in use to beginning the process of completely upgrading our lighting to high efficiency, low energy technology.  As we work towards completing the upgrades at all office and fabrication facilities, we anticipate a reduction in light energy usage of at least 40%.

WATER water-drop.png

water-treatment-photo.jpg Granite and quartz fabrication requires a lot of water.  In February 2009, our stone fabrication facility was equipped with its own water treatment and recycling process.  In doing so, we are recycling over 3,000,000 gallons of water as well as stone effluent that was previously being recycled through municipal treatment facilities.  The expense of the system is more than off-set by the enormous reduction to our monthly water bill.  A true win-win situation.

ECO-FRIENDLY MATERIALS eco-friendly-logo.png

We only utilize materials and u;;iers that meet or represent the highest industry standards for quality, safety and environmental integrity.  Additionally, we seek to provide a highly selective assortment of products for our environmentally conscious consumers.
Some examples:

Bamboo is visually appealing, versatile, and extremely durable.  One of the most important benefits is that it is extremely eco-friendly.  Technically a variety of grass, it is easily harvested without harming the plant and quickly renews itself.  Although it is light relative to most construction materials, it is harder than most "regular" woods.

ice-stone-logo.png       ice-stone-photo.jpgIceStone® offers cutting-edge design and environmental results.  It is made from 100% recycled glass in a cement matrix and is a Cradle to Cradle Certified™ durable surface.  IceStone surfaces are strong, heat-resistant and scratch-resistant.  It is fabricated, installed and maintained like granite or marble.  Because no petrochemicals or resins are used in its manufacture, it will not fade in direct sunlight.     View IceStone Colors
